On May 25, Billet Industries took part in the first graduation ceremony and signing day for the Department of Defense & U.S. Navy’s Pennsylvania Talent Pipeline Project. The ceremony took place at the Independence Seaport Museum at Penn’s Landing, Philadelphia.
We received a signed commitment for employment from Matt Spahr at the ceremony.
About Matt
Matt is a recent graduate of the York County School of Technology. In the time since the May signing day ceremony, Matt accepted and is currently employed as a Machinist Apprentice & Maintenance Tech at Billet. He enjoys drag racing and all things with motors!
We’re glad to have Matt on board and we’re excited to see what the future will bring for him here at Billet Industries.
What Is the Pennsylvania Talent Pipeline Project?
Skilled defense trade workers are in high demand across the Philadelphia region and here in Central Pennsylvania. To help grow the talent pool to fill these positions, the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) and the Navy launched the Pennsylvania Talent Pipeline. The program kicked off in May 2021.
The program’s goals are to:
Billet Industries has joined 33 other employers in Central & Southeastern Pennsylvania in a commitment to hire and retain over 200 individuals for mission-critical careers across Pennsylvania’s maritime ecosystem. These much-needed trade skills include welders, machinists, metal fabricators, electricians, ship fitters, and quality assurance technicians.
We are honored to be a part of this program. Not only will this program help us grow the local talent pool for skilled trades, it will also help us grow as a business, so we can continue to expand our capacity.
